Just like this summer, I agreed to be part of the Peek-a-boo pattern tour. Make sure to read all the way to the bottom so you don’t miss the specials at the end.
I sewed the Varsity Cowl pattern for Bean as Tater has been getting most of the sewing lately.
I made it out of natural colored cotton/poly interlock and cotton rib knit. It went together very easily.
I did increase the width of the sleeve and bottom cuffs by 1″ before folding them in half, so the cuffs you see on my shirt are a little wider than the pattern calls for.
I would also suggest stay-stitching the front neckline of the collar and clipping into the corners before putting in the cowl – the knit can get finicky and go in crooked if you don’t.
After sewing, I decided to have more fun with my Procion Dyes – I got some more (cheaper, yay!) from Dharma Trading Company and decided to dye Bean’s shirt to match my turquoise jeans. Because I used cotton/poly and 100% cotton fabrics, they took the dyes differently, and I love the subtle tone-on-tone look.
Notice the shiner on Bean’s head? He was jumping on the couch and went headfirst into the coffee table.
And the pants he’s wearing are Shwin Designs Nowhere Man Pants – the same ones Tater wore less than a year ago in this post. I hemmed them up about 1/2″, but otherwise they fit him fine. This guy only weighs 3 pounds less than his brother despite the two year age difference – I think he’s going to catch him soon.
